Encouraging Young Minds

Because the News Sentinel values education, we have developed several programs to complement the efforts of the regional school systems.

The News Sentinel in Education's nationally recognized program provides a wealth of information to teachers, parents and students through services such as online activities, teacher workshops, in-service presentations, curriculum materials for schools, contests, scholarships and in-paper features.

News Sentinel Academic Achievers program honors exceptional high school seniors throughout East Tennessee for their academic excellence.

The News Sentinel Southern Appalachia Spelling Bee provides students with a fun, enriching challenge and an opportunity to progress to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington, D.C.

The News Sentinel also supports local non-profits with their education and literacy initiatives.
