American Apathy still claims to incorporate both metal and punk into its style, but points out that jazz and Southern rock factor in as well. The band keeps its outlook fresh by leaving its style open to new experiments and instrumentation, and it practices the same open-endedness in writing its lyrics. The once politically charged band now gives its listeners control over the song's meanings.
