"three chords and a cloud of dust... and bbq sauce."
Tim Lee has been playing music most of his life. Labeled over the years as everything from power pop to punk — and several points in between — the former member of the Windbreakers (and Let’s Active among others) will tell you he plays rock 'n roll and that you can make of that what you will.
Tim is the core of the Knoxville, Tenn., band that bears his name, along with Susan Bauer Lee on bass and vocals, and Matt Honkonen on drums and vocals. All three write songs and contribute to arrangements.
The sum of the parts is pretty cool.
"..playing around on the pulled-pork circuit... burning up miles, making racket and eating barbeque ..."
In 2010, the four-year-old band has been on a creative tear, cranking out new songs while undertaking a steady gigging schedule on what they refer to as “the pulled-pork circuit,” a nod to the famed R&B “chitlin’ circuit” of the Deep South.
Over the summer, the 3 hit the studio in between shows, recording 21 songs with Mitch Easter (Pavement, REM, Wilco), Bruce Watson (R.L. Burnside, Junior Kimbrough) and Craig Schumacher (Neko Case, Devotchka, Calexico) at studios in North Carolina, Mississippi and Arizona.
That collection of tunes resulted in the November 2010 double-CD release, Raucous Americanus, available at www.timleethree.com.
