Central High School is a public, coeducational college-preparatory grade 9-12 high school. It is at 5321 Jacksboro Pike in the Fountain City community of Knoxville. It can be reached from Broadway Avenue and Tazewell Pike and is less than two miles from Interstate 640. 

Central High School was built in 1971. Additional classrooms and vocational shops were added to the existing building in 1975. Central is attended by approximately 1,500 students. Its feeder middle schools are Gresham, Halls, Holston, Northwest, Powell and Whittle Springs.

Central is a comprehensive high school. The school offers several Advanced Placement courses, including biology, chemistry, macro economics, micro economics, European history, statistics and U.S. history. Students can also take three foreign languages. Arts courses include choral ensemble, concert band, studio art and visual art. Central also has a Navy ROTC program.

Central High School has a freshman academy designed to foster greater success among ninth grade students during the transition to high school. The academy is made up of small learning communities to enhance learning, relationships, self-esteem, decision-making skills and responsibility.

Students at Central can participate in sports such as baseball, basketball, cheerleading, cross country, football, golf, soccer, softball, swimming, tennis, track and field, volleyball and wrestling. The school mascot is the bobcat.
