New outlook on Baker-Peters Jazz Club

When I first started this job, I went to a now-defunct jazz club called 4620. There, I saw an amazing jazz band led by vocalist Sarah Clapp. Since last March, I haven’t had a chance to see her play again.

Recently I read that she would be playing at Baker-Peters Jazz Club. Although I previously wasn’t impressed with Baker-Peters, my tastes have changed and I decided to give it another shot. I figured if nothing else, I’d get to see Sarah Clapp again.

Well, I was wrong.

Monday worth cheering at pub's wine night

Finally, someone gave us a reason to go out on Monday nights.

OK, I’m not really the kind of person to need an excuse to go out on any night of the week. Whether or not anything’s going on, I’ll go grab a drink with some friends. Or even by myself.

But Preservation Pub may have monopolized Monday night festivities.

Less is best when it comes to this bar's crowd

I haven’t been to Half Barrel too many times, but it’s a different place each time I go.

I first covered it more than a year ago over my favorite “holiday,” spring break, when, as expected, hardly anyone was there. A friend and I had the place to ourselves, for the most part, and enjoyed a plethora of draft beers while watching “South Park.” It was a great night.

Karaoke’s on key ... unless you don’t like country

I have a love/hate relationship with karaoke. As such, no one had to twist my arm to get me to go to Bull Feathers in West Knoxville, a place that boasts 96,000 karaoke selections.

Of course, it was my idea to go, and I had to twist a few arms to get people to join.

“Had I not known you were coming here on business, I would’ve advised against it,” said my friend Andrew (a West Knoxville resident) promptly upon meeting my friend Lisa and me at the karaoke bar. “I came to see your reaction to the place, though,” he added, making me wary of my evening’s plans.

For more sophisticated fun, give this 'grillery' a shot

With my recent 23rd birthday falling during the middle of the week, my assumption was that my friends and I wouldn’t be able to party quite as hard since most of them had work the next morning.

As such, we chose an evening at Downtown Grill and Brewery, where we could order some food, drink microbrew beer and enjoy the more upscale environment of the place.
