"Spring: A Knoxville Sonata" -- a new play set in Knoxville
The Water Series is pleased to announce the world premiere of "Spring: A Knoxville Sonata" by Percy Bell. Performances will be at venue Theatre Knoxville Downtown, 319 N. Gay Street, November 5, 6, 7, 12, 13, and 14. Tickets will be available for purchase or reservation Oct. 1.
Bell is a Knoxville native and graduate of NYU’s prestigious MFA program in playwriting.
This unique play—whose poetic language and setting conjures O’Connor and Dickey—is set in Knoxville, telling the story of two sisters who struggle to defy cycles of emotional violence, striving toward forgiveness and renewal despite a beleaguered family history. The play combines truth and legends from the playwright's Appalachian heritage.
In Spring, Drucilla has fought her father for her mother's house and lords over her sister and daughter. Now Drucilla believes death comes for her, but preparations for a peaceable passing are interrupted by the return of a young woman named Lee.
