After the busy Thanksgiving holiday and a long Monday back in the grind, a few of us decided to venture over to Bull Feathers in West Knoxville to watch a little karaoke and catch up on the long weekend.

Bull Feathers is located in a small Kingston Pike strip mall just east of Lovell Road, and not too hard to find thanks its giant blue neon sign. The parking lot wasn't packed when we arrived around 8:30 p.m., but for a cold, rainy Monday night I was surprised at how many people eventually came out.

Bull Feathers' main attraction is karaoke, advertising more than 103,000 songs to choose from. If there is a song you are dying to sing - or ruin for everyone else - there is a good chance that Bull Feathers has it.

The karaoke goes on all week, starting at 8 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and whenever there is a crowd during the week. After visiting Bull Feathers a few times, it is pretty clear that the '80s and any-era country music reigns supreme, with a dash of pop Top 40 hits every now and then.

The few songs we got to hear were done surprisingly well. The singers were definitely above par for the area, which is mostly thanks to Bull Feathers' ongoing contests and YouTube "celebrity" status among karaoke-ers, drawing in regulars and aspiring singers instead of that drunk guy who always wants to sing "Whip It."

Bull Feathers' current contest just wrapped up its finals, and with a first place price of $1000, second place of $500 and third place of $250, it just makes sense to participate. Contests usually take place at 8 p.m. on Thursdays.

If karaoke isn't your thing, Bull Feathers also offers a few of the usual distractions. There are two pool tables and dart boards in the back area of the room. If you happen to be sitting at the bar, there is also a wall of TVs to keep you entertained.

If it usually takes you a few drinks to get your karaoke on, Bull Feathers offers some decent specials on pitchers. Monday through Thursday and during happy hour on the weekends, you can get a pitcher of PBR for $4. Thursday offers $5 Bud Light pitchers during the karaoke contest. The newer Budweiser American Ale is also $5 (and pretty good, too!), while a pitcher of the always delicious Fat Tire is only $6.99, which is a steal compared to other bar prices.

Bull Feathers also has food served during the week, except Mondays when the kitchen closes early. Some of the specials include a two-for-one burger Tuesday, 10 wings for $1 on Wednesday, two-for-one steak sandwiches on Thursday and half price appetizers all week during happy hour.

Even though the kitchen is closed early on Monday, Bull Feathers has a pretty cheap pizza deal with Papa Johns where you can get an extra large two-topping pizza for $10 or buy it by the slice for $1.

We managed to escape Bull Feathers with one of the cheapest bar tabs I've had in a while, even after getting both drinks and food. The service was great and the crowd, although light, definitely gets behind the karaoke scene that Bull Feathers provides. This wasn't my first time at Bull Feathers, and it certainly won't be my last.
