Former "Dancing with the Stars" pro Julianne Hough will hit the ground running when she arrives in Knoxville today. (Or, in her case, she may hit the ground dancing.)
Her first public appearance will be at the mayor's office (on the sixth floor of the City County Building) around 5:30 p.m., when she'll be attending a reception in her honor.
Then she will dart over to her float for the WIVK Christmas Parade, which will begin at 7 p.m.
Hough's float will be near the front of the parade, which will feature around 85 units and march down Gay Street and wind into the Old City district. For most of us, this will be the closest contact she will have to the general public, the unwashed masses, yearning to be free.
After the parade, she will be performing at World Grotto tonight following the WIVK Christmas Parade.
"She'll be doing about a 30- to 45-minute acoustic set," says Mike Hammond of WIVK.
No tickets will be sold in advance. It's a free event, and seating will be done on a first come, first served basis. Only fans ages 18 and up will be allowed into the show.
The club holds around 250 folks, Hammond says. Doors will open around 7 p.m., which is the same time the parade begins.
Hough is expected to hit the World Grotto stage around 8:30 p.m., when she'll do a mix of her hits and some seasonal numbers.
She stepped into a country music singing career earlier this year. Her self-titled debut CD topped the Billboard country albums chart in May. The CD produced the hit single "That Song in My Head."
She's been touring with Brad Paisley, Jewel and Chuck Wicks (whom she is rumored to be dating these days). She, Paisley and Willie Nelson also appeared in the video for the Snoop Dogg song "My Medicine."
Recently, she released an EP of Christmas music titled "Sounds of the Season: The Julianne Hough Holiday Collection," available at Target.
"My Hallelujah Song," her new single, is now rising on the charts.
On the "Dancing" side of things, Hough has had back-to-back wins on the hit ABC series, the only pro to have that claim. She placed fourth in the past season, when she was partners with "Hannah Montana" co-star Cody Linley.
She temporarily dropped off of "Dancing" during the past season for medical reasons. She was diagnosed with endometriosis and had her appendix removed.
Months before she announced she was leaving the series, Hough talked about how liberating being off "Dancing" can be for her and her dual career.
"It gives me time to be other places," she said then with a laugh.
Words to live by: "Apolo was the one who listened to me the most." - Julianne Hough on teaching speed skater Apolo Anton Ohno how to dance.
