    FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS

    The Holiday Festival of Lights will offer a stroll or horse-drawn wagon ride through a display of thousands of twinkling lights, kettle corn, hot chocolate, coffee and bonfires for roasting marshmallows 6:30-9 p.m. at The Cove at Concord Park, 11808 Northshore Drive.

    Admission is free, but donations of canned goods are requested to benefit the Love Kitchen. Cash donations will be given to the Legacy Parks Foundation. For information, call 865-215-6607.

    'IT'S A WONDERFUL LIFE'

    Frank Capra's classic holiday film "It's a Wonderful Life," starring Jimmy Stewart, will be shown at 8 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre, 604 S. Gay St.

    Admission is $8 for adults, $6 for ages 12 and younger and ages 60 and older.

    Saturday, Dec. 20

    LOCALS CRANK IT UP TO KEEP PILOT LIGHT AFLAME

    Local rock groups Three Man Band, New Madrid and Double Muslims will entertain at 10 p.m. at Pilot Light, 106 E. Jackson Ave.

    The show is a benefit for Pilot Light, a volunteer-operated, grass-roots music hall in the Old City that is celebrating its eighth year in service. The venue plays host to cutting edge, offbeat and often experimental music by local and national acts. Admission is $5.

    CHANNING & QUINN

    Nashville-based vocal-and-guitar duo Channing & Quinn, left, will entertain at 10 p.m. at Preservation Pub, 28 Market Square.

    The Bearded, a good-time Knoxville band that plays in a contemporary old-time style, will also perform.

    CLAYTON HOLIDAY CONCERT

    The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will present the 22nd annual Clayton Holiday Concert at 3 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium, 500 Howard Baker Jr. Ave.

    This year's theme is "A Holiday Peace," featuring seasonal selections such as the "Hallelujah Chorus," "Ave Maria," "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" and more.

    DOUG HARRIS BAND

    'A VERY SEVAN CHRISTMAS'

    Guitarist Sevan Takvoryan and the STak Trio will invoke the spirit of Christmas jazz along with some of their other musical pals at 9 p.m. at the Downtown Brewery & Grill, 424 S. Gay St.

    TODD STEED AND THE CHRISTMAS SUNS

    Knoxville singer-songwriter Todd Steed will assemble a special Christmas version of his band The Suns of Phere for his annual holiday performance on the WDVX Blue Plate Special.

    The free show will be noon-1 p.m. at One Vision Plaza, 301 S. Gay St. It will also be broadcast live on WDVX 89.9 and 102.9 FM and online at www.wdvx.com.

    Samuel L. Jackson, left, plays The Octopus, a villainous mastermind in the world of "The Spirit," based on the classic comic-book character created by Will Eisner. Murdered cop Denny Colt (Gabriel Macht) returns from the beyond as The Spirit to take on crime in his hometown of Central City. Written and directed by Frank Miller, the PG-13 rated film also stars Scarlett Johansson, Eva Mendes and Jaime King.

    Newlyweds John and Jenny Grogan (Owen Wilson and Jennifer Aniston, left) adopt a cute puppy that turns out to be more that they bargained for in the new film "Marley & Me," based on the popular novel of the same name.

    As Marley grows bigger, his misadventures grow, too. The pooch accompanies the couple through a number of life's challenges.

    The film also stars Eric Dane, Alan Arkin and Kathleen Turner. It is rated PG.

    'THE SOUND OF MUSIC'

    Family film classic "The Sound of Music" will be shown at 1 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre, 604 S. Gay St.

    Idealistic young nun Maria (Julie Andrews, left) becomes the governess to the mischievous, but musically talented, Von Trapp children and charms their stern father (Christopher Plummer).

    Admission is $5. The film will also be shown at 1 p.m. Sunday-Monday; 1 and 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 28-30.

    Saturday, Dec. 27

    TYRONE COTTON

    Rock and soul singer-guitarist Tyrone Cotton, of Louisville, Ky., will entertain at 10 p.m. at Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria, 200 E. Jackson Ave.

    Cotton mixes blues, gospel, pop, jazz and Americana sounds with a rich, expressive vocal style. His self-titled CD can be sampled at www.inroomone.com.

    Sunday, Dec. 28

    'REVUE' VARIETY SHOW

    The "Revue" variety show features "gender-bending expressionist performances," karaoke, a cabaret and belly dance on Sunday evenings at World Grotto, 16 Market Square.

    The cabaret and belly dance shows at at 9 and 11 p.m.; karaoke runs from 9 p.m. to midnight; a variety of acts and a raffle will fill in the intermission times.
