Teaming up with Cracker Barrel for a new edition of her current CD is working out well for Dolly Parton.
A "collector's edition" of her "Backwoods Barbie" CD debuted at No. 9 on Billboard magazine's Top Country Albums Chart, selling around 12,306 copies. In its second week, the CD slipped to No. 14.
The premiere showing was good enough to place the "collector's" CD at No. 40 on Billboard's Top 200 Album Chart, which tallies popularity of CDs in any musical genre.
"I am very excited that the album has been so well received," Parton is quoted as saying. "We sensed from the start that this would be a great partnership."
This new "collector's" CD contains three extra songs from the standard "Backwoods Barbie." The tunes include "Rose of My Heart," "Hallelujah Holiday" and "Berry Pie."
This month, Parton said she is working on a dance CD. Among the songs she's written is one called "Wee Bit Gay."
n Up on stage. During a recent show in Key West, Fla., Kenny Chesney surprised the crowd by having some of his rowdy friends join him on stage. His singing partner was Peyton Manning; two other guests - Dale Earnhardt Jr. and John Gruden - also joined Chesney and Manning on stage, but they didn't sing.
Earnhardt and Gruden were there to "ham it up" and they "hung out and waved" to the crowd, one source says.
Wonder when The Ches is coming back here to do that sort of thing?
n Gig. Fremantle Media, the company behind "American Idol" and a zillion other shows, is mulling over the pilot for a sitcom starring West Knoxville mother / comedian Leanne Morgan.
In the sitcom, Morgan plays a wife and mother who lives in Chattanooga and tries to manage her harried life. Morgan's comedy routines are centered around her Southern-fried home life. (Food Network chef Paula Deen was cast as Morgan's mother when the pilot was being considered for ABC, which, ultimately, passed on it.)
Meanwhile, Morgan, who'll be performing at Sidesplitters Comedy Club on April 30 to May 2, is considering an offer to do her own talk show on XM radio's Blue Collar Channel. Morgan says she has the option to either do the show from her home or go to Nashville one day a week.
She jokes that she'll probably do it from Nashville because she says her kids and dogs will be too distracting during the show.
