This is not your neighborhood garage sale.

The Arts and Culture Alliance of Greater Knoxville is hosting its first consignment sale 5-9 p.m. Friday during downtown Knoxville’s First Friday festivities.

The sale is at 108 S. Gay St., just up the street from the Emporium Center.

More than 300 pieces of art and fine crafts will be at the sale. They include prints, posters or original paintings as well as pottery, woven rugs and clothing, wood pieces and glass. But prices varied.

Small framed oil paintings of Paris street scenes were marked at $42 each; unframed posters were just a few dollars each. Silk scarves were marked at $12 each.

A wide range of original art, done of subjects as varied as pieces of fruit to rural landscapes, will be part of the sale. There were also some household items, including an antique-styled table for $40 and some tall black metal candlesticks at $19 and $20.

The alliance will take a percentage of each item’s sale price.

But for a lot of contributors, the event is a chance to sell the art they’ve made or had and are ready to part with.

The alliance is holding the sale to give its members and supporters a chance to clean out their houses, attics and garages of art, fine crafts, antiques or jewelry.

It’s also another way to come out, visit and “have a little fun,” said Arts and Culture Alliance Executive Director Liza Zenni last week.
