This and that from a TV critic’s notebook:
n Wear. Superstar Kenny Chesney has a new clothing line that will debut Sept. 1 at the Magic Marketplace in Las Vegas. To mark the occasion, Chesney will perform “a very intimate performance” at the Hard Rock Hotel in Las Vegas with many in the clothing industry attending, his peeps say.
His casual-attire clothing line is called Blue Chair Bay. It’s not like his CDs don’t sell or his tour is a bust. He’s doing quite well in those departments.
He just wanted to do something different. Chesney knows he’s not a fashionista.
“Just like I don’t know fashion,” he is quoted as saying, “I don’t expect these (fashion experts) to really know who I am, what I do or what I’d like to think my music represents… So, that’s why I’m going to play a very intimate show for a lot of them.”
He describes his line as being like a dream destination, “kind of like the place we’d all like to go if we had no obligations or nowhere to be,” the East Tennessee native tells (of course) People magazine. “That’s what I want this clothing line to represent. These are the clothes I would pack to go to this place.”
The casual pieces will be for women and men. They are intended to be like “that favorite T-shirt that you’ve washed a lot that is kind of sun bleached ... your favorite khakis, and your shirt that you’ve had forever,” he is quoted as saying.
And hold the phone, “Project Runway!” He says he was involved in every step of the items.
“I’ve got a shirt that says ‘Bob’s Charter,’ and Bob is a buddy of mine that’s been living in the islands for a long time,” he tells People.
n Baby news. Local prankster Johnny Knoxville’s girlfriend, Naomi Nelson, is pregnant. This is their first child together.
Knoxville’s teenage daughter, Madison, is with his ex-wife, Melanie Clapp.
Nelson is reportedly three months pregnant. Us is quoting a “rep” from Knoxville as the source of the news.
Knoxville, however, has not commented yet.
Knoxville is better known around here as PJ Clapp, and his family still lives in his native South Knoxville.
Meanwhile, on the career side of things, Knoxville has just finished a movie with Kevin Spacey in New Orleans.
n Movie. Knoxville native John Cullum can be seen on Broadway currently in the critically acclaimed show “August.” He also has a new movie called “All Good Things,” a murder mystery with Ryan Gosling and Kirsten Dunst.
The film is set to open on Dec. 11.
