KNOXVILLE - Sam Brown, award-winning local broadcast journalist, was found dead at his West Knoxville home this morning.

He was 59, and his death appears to be from natural causes, according to Knoxville Police Department Capt. Gary Holliday.

"There were no signs of foul play," Holliday said.

The body was taken to the University of Tennessee Medical Center, where it will be examined, Holliday said.

"We got a call from Mr. Brown's family," Holliday said. "They were concerned because no one had seen or heard from him in around five days. They authorized the Knoxville Fire Department to force an entry, and Mr. Brown was found there in the house."

Brown was an investigative reporter and anchorman for WATE-TV for many years. He later worked for WKXT, the forerunner to WVLT, Channel 8, WIVK radio and Knowledge Source, a Knoxville-based company that recruits U.S. and Canadian candidates to teach English in Asia.

He also was an adjunct professor at the University of Tennessee.
