BIG EARS FESTIVAL: ALIVE & LUMINESCENT AFTER FIVE

The Luminescent Orchestrii, left, is in town for a series of performances as part of the Big Ears music festival going on this weekend. The band will kick off its first show of gypsy jazz and Eastern European folk-rock at 5 p.m. during Alive After Five at the Knoxville Museum of Art, 1050 World's Fair Park Drive.

In addition to playing resonator guitar for the quartet, musician Sxip Shirey will present his one-man story-and-gadget show "Sonic New York."

KSO HONORS RICHARD RODGERS

Maestro Lucas Richman will lead the Knoxville Symphony Orchestra in a "Tribute to Richard Rodgers" at 8 p.m. at the Civic Auditorium, 500 Howard Baker Jr. Ave.

The program will include music from "South Pacific," "Carousel," "The Sound of Music," Oklahoma" and more.

PHIL POLLARD

Phil Pollard (illustrated at left) and His Band Of Humans will entertain at 10 p.m. at Preservation Pub, 28 Market Square.

Pollard lives in Virginia these days, but often breezes through town to assemble the Humans for a night of poly-genre musical madness and mirthful mayhem. It's a sight to see, believe you me.

"I'd like to announce that we're all dressing a la Abraham Lincoln," says Pollard in an e-mail announcing his show. "Actually, any Abraham or Lincoln will do."

FARRAGUT FOLKLIFE MUSEUM
