A taste of the Big Easy has arrived in Sevierville, and patrons will get to sample its flavors when New Orleans on the River opens for brunch on Sunday, Feb. 8.
The owners are Marion and Glenda Sheffield, who recently moved to Sevierville from Texas.
This is their first restaurant venture and they've recruited Chef George Lovell to oversee the kitchen.
However, Marion Sheffield did set some ground rules.
"We will serve nothing but American or Gulf of Mexico seafood. I don't want anything from Thailand or Vietnam," he said.
He also won't stand for certain reheating methods.
"We aren't going to zip lock and then warm up our food. We have a full kitchen and we are going to create and cook our own food here," he said.
Chef Lovell welcomes those guidelines, saying quality food is what he intends to serve. He has been in the restaurant business for 35 years, including time working at Chef Paul Prudhome's "K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen."
"I'm not scared to say that when it comes to New Orleans-style food, I can cook better than anyone in East Tennessee. Just put me in front of a stove and tell me what you want and I can do it," he said.
The brunch menu will include "regular brunch stuff like omelets," as well as beignets, Cajun fried turkey breast, jambalaya, etouffee and creole dishes. The dinner menu will also feature New Orleans' specialties, as well as steaks, seafood and praline bread pudding.
A special Valentine's menu is being planned, as well as special offerings during Mardi Gras.
Dinner prices range from $12.95 to $28 and brunch is $16.95 for adults, $10.95 for children 10 and under. The first dinner service will be on Feb. 10.
The restaurant is located on a bluff overlooking the French Broad River, on Highway 66, behind New Hope Church of Sevierville. It's in the building that once housed the Lee Greenwood Restaurant.
"If you come to try our food, I guarantee I'll see you again," Lovell said.
