Venturing out of the house with the kids doesn’t need to cost as much as a heavy Starbucks habit! Try these money savers:

1. Carmike 7 (Windsor Square).

2. Concord Park Cove Point.

Sandy volleyball courts and small beach, porch swings overlooking lake and playground for smaller kids.

3. Knox County Libraries.

Free children’s programs include games and stories year round. All free!

4. Sundown in the City.

Free summer concerts every Thursday in Market Square kick off at a family-friendly hour. Park for free and enjoy the alcohol-free atmosphere.

5. Barnes & Noble and Books a Million.

Watch the kids play in the children’s area while you sip a latte and flip through Knoxomoms Magazine.

6. Tennessee Theatre.

First Monday of every month, brown bag lunch and enjoy a free Wurlitzer concert. Info 865.684.1200.

7. Oak Ridge Children's Museum.

Boasts a simulated rainforest and a life-size dollhouse. Costs $6 per adult and $4 for kids 3 and over. Info 865.482.1074.

8. The Sunsphere.

See Knoxville from the dizzying heights of The Sunsphere. Admission is free.

9. Parkway Drive-in.

10. Smokies Baseball.
