SONIC YOUTH
Veteran noise-rock band Sonic Youth, left, might not look so youthful anymore, but they are definitely still "sonic." The evidence is in the rockin' tunes on "The Eternal," the group's latest album. The disc is Sonic Youth's first release on indie-rock mainstay Matador Records, following many years on the big-league Geffen label.
Sonic Youth will entertain at 8 p.m. at the Bijou Theatre, 803 S. Gay St.

'THE FULL MONTY'
A group of unemployed factory workers comes up with an unusual way to make money in the musical comedy "The Full Monty," based on the film of the same name.
The play will be presented at 8 p.m. at the Oak Ridge Playhouse, 227 Broadway, Jackson Square, Oak Ridge. The story contains some adult language and content. Admission is $18-$20.

LOST IN THE TREES
Lost in the Trees, a pop mini-orchestra from Chapel Hill, N.C., will perform at 10 p.m. at Pilot Light, 106 E. Jackson Ave.
Led by singer-songwriter Ari Picker, the 13-member ensemble mixes classical and indi-folk approaches - using strings, horns and acoustic guitar - into its own signature style.

DANETTE MCCRARY RELEASES 'SEAHORSES'
Knoxville performer Danette McCrary will celebrate the release of "Seahorses," her latest collection of instrumental piano music, 6:30-9:30 p.m. at Swizzles Lounge at the Holiday Inn, Cedar Bluff Road at Interstate 40.

QUILTS & LATEX
Two new exhibits will be on display through Sept. 7 at the Tennessee Valley Unitarian Universalist Church Gallery, 2931 Kingston Pike.
"Flora, Fauna and Feathers" features art quilts by Sheila Rauen. "To Remove and Replace" is a collection of oil and latex paintings by Heather Middlebrooks.

'HARRY POTTER AND THE HALF-BLOOD PRINCE'
The titular wizard prodigy enters his sixth year at Hogwarts in "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince."
Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) discovers a book containing helpful notes from a mysterious former student and learns a few secrets about his nemesis, Voldemort, along the way. The cast of the PG-rated movie includes Emma Watson, Rupert Grint, Michael Gambon and Alan Rickman.
SURF-ROCK NIGHT
Daikaiju, a "psychedelic surf-rock" band from Hunstville, Ala., will will headline a concert at 8 p.m. at The Catalyst, 125 E. Jackson Ave.
Knoxville bands Akashic Mysteries and Destroyed by Magnets will open the show. Admission is $5.

OLD CITY LIVE WITH PAUL THORN
Blues-rock troubadour Paul Thorn, left, of Tupelo, Miss., will headline the Old City Live concert at 8 p.m. on the stage of the Old City Courtyard.

'ADORATION'
Student Simon (Devon Bostick, left) uses an unusual French-class assignment to probe into his family's secret past in the film "Adoration," opening July 17 at Downtown West. He creates a stir by creating a controversial fake identity in class and on the Internet. The cast of the R-rated drama includes Arsinee Khanjian and Rachel Blanchard.

'BEANS & BLUEGRASS'
The second annual "Beans & Bluegrass" benefit will be 4:30-8:30 p.m. at the Raccoon Valley Festival Grounds, 265 Patt Lane, Powell. The event will feature bluegrass bands Shadow Ridge and Whitewater, cakes walks; children's activities, food and a silent auction.
Admission is $5. Proceeds benefit the Heiskell Community Center.

MCCLUNG MUSEUM
Take a Sunday afternoon stroll through history, science and art at the Frank H. McClung Museum 1327 Circle Park on the University of Tennessee campus.
The museum currently features the collection "Birds in Art," on display through Aug. 16.
Permanent exhibits include "The Battle of Fort Sanders" - detailing Knoxville's Civil War history; and the centerpiece display "Archaeology & the Native Peoples of Tennessee."
