When people ask Parker Norton what he did over the summer, he'll definitely have an unusual answer. Parker, a rising eighth grader at Holston Middle School, recently won over $22,000 on "Jeopardy! Kid's Week."
The show aired July 13 -17, and culminated with Knoxville's Parker Norton as the grand prize winner for the week.
Parker, the son of Greg and Stephanie Norton, took an online test to try out for the show after his grandmother, Jane Parker, first saw an advertisement about it.
"I watch 'Jeopardy' and 'Wheel of Fortune' every night," he grinned. "So I decided to take the test. I did well enough that they invited me to an audition in Atlanta."
During the February audition, he competed against 20 other kids from the Southeast. "We played a mock game, but they also had a little interview," Parker said, "and they accepted me.
"They don't give you anything to study," he said. "I read from the Almanac and my Dad quizzed me on state capitals, country capitals, things like that. I was a little nervous," he admitted, "but not a ton."
Parker said he plans to put some of the prize money aside for college and use the rest to buy a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar.
