Musicians reunite for Louie Bluie Festival

A highlight of Saturday's Louie Bluie Music and Arts Festival at Cove Lake State Park will be the reunion of musicians who played on the Tennessee Jamboree radio program between 1953 and the late 1970s.

The Tennessee Jamboree was broadcast live every Saturday night over AM station 1450, WLAF, in LaFollette. On each broadcast, host Elmer Longmire directed the musical guests in a fast-paced variety show modeled after larger radio shows such as Knoxville's Tennessee Barn Dance and Nashville's Grand Old Opry.

Saturday's performance at Cove Lake State Park will include the Blue Valley Boys and Girls, Carl Stump, "Little" Barb Jones, Frances Boshears and other special guests from Campbell County who performed regularly on the Tennessee Jamboree.

The Louie Bluie Music and Arts Festival is held in honor of Howard Armstrong, a black musician and artist who grew up in LaFollette and died in 2003 at the age of 94. The festival is free.
