KNOXVILLE Admit it, ever since the General Lee came roaring onto your TV screen in 1979 (or whenever you first saw the reruns of "The Dukes of Hazzard") you imagined yourself as one of the Duke boys or Daisy Duke. When you get behind the wheel of your car, be it a sleek black 2009 BMW or a 1970 Ford Pinto held together with rust and bondo, you imagine your vehicle has a Confederate flag painted on its roof and plays "Dixie" whenever you blow the horn. Every crossing guard you pass is Sherrif Rosco and you are the fun-loving offspring of a family of lovable misfits.
Now your dreams can come a little closer to reality. Submit a photo of yourself as a character from "The Dukes of Hazzard" and if you look enough like the character, you could win a prize package that includes admission for two to Smoky Mountain Fan Fest, Saturday-Sunday, July 18-19, at Smokies Stadium in Kodak. The event includes appearances by members of the "Dukes of Hazzard," including "Daisy Duke" Catherine Bach, "Cooter" Ben Jones, "Sheriff Rosco" James Best, "Enos" Sonny Shroyer, "Sheriff Little" Don Pedro Colley and "Cletus" Rick Hurst. In addition, Butch Patrick ("Eddie Munster" of the "The Munsters") and Margaret Pellegrini, one of the last surviving Munchkins from the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz," will appear.
The prize includes admission to all Fan Fest events (including meeting the TV stars), admission to the Merle Haggard concert that's part of the festival, and three nights at the Holiday Inn Express near the park plus dinner for two for three nights. All that, plus the world knowing that you are the embodiment of one of the Dukes.
To enter: Starting June 22 you can upload a photo of yourself as one of the "Dukes of Hazzard" characters here. A panel will narrow the field down to finalists from which Knoxville.com visitors will vote for a winner. Liberal interpretations on the characters are welcome (goth Daisy Duke, anyone?). Winners will be notified around July 10 and will be posted online at Knoxville.com.
Good luck.
