Knoxville Police have confirmed that there was cheering at Sundown in the City when it was announced that Michael Jackson had died.
Michael Silence had earlier blogged about eyewitness accounts of the cheering and later confirmed it with Knoxville Police.
See his blog for the details.

That makes me glad I wasnt there. I had planned to see Jamey Johnson, but I am glad I didnt see people from my hometown act in such an ignorant manner. Its bad enough having to hear about it here.

What a bunch of morons. We wonder why others think the way they do about the south....probably the last we'll see of Jamie Johnson.

Michael Jackson was a whack job that, like most people, couldn't handle prosperity. In my opinion, his heyday was as a member of the Jackson 5, and should have done something else when he went through puberty other than becoming a kiddy diddler and go way overboard trying to become a white guy. That is as repulsive as the young white kids I see today trying to be "gangstas". That being said, cheering his death was in bad taste, but most people regard him as a child molester, and otherwise unstable as opposed to a great talent. One lady compared him to Elvis, which is waaay off base.

Well Said Demosthenes! It just shows us that class and character are definitely optional for some.

You put this on the front page of the Knox News that people cheered because an icon died. How IGNORANT! Although Knoxville is my hometown and I only come to this site to keep informed and I keep being reminded why I left. How simply IGNORANT of the people who would cheer, how IGNORANT of the people who make horrilbe judgments about people that don't know and how VERY DISAPPOINTING of KNS to print such a thing! White Pine I pray for you!!

Why publicize this? It makes knoxville look stupid.

No matter how you feel about the man, have some respect. That was uncalled for, tasteless and tacky.

At the same time a beby burped, a woman
passed gas and an old man belched, much like this story or blog, this is not newsworthy and borderline incindery in a forum that daily jumps on racial events. Bad taste on the blogger and KNS.
Thanks for the weekend uplift, sadly yours,
dissappointed

LOL...I'll take all the prayers I can get! I also can speak my mind, and I thought I did so in a relatively civil manner. Anyway...that's what makes this country great. Thanks again for the prayers...if you like, I can offer a PO Box where you can also send money
WhitePineVol77 writes:
PS I'm really sure that you woke up one day and said, "this place has too many hick, redneck, short sided people...I am leaving". Also, were you up close and personal with MJ? Would you let your child go to his "day care center"?
JaniaJ writes:
You are right it is a free country and I am glad you can find humor in your thoughts. That is something you have to deal with and and answer to God about. I will pass on sending money! I generally don't give to the causes of such nature. I am sure you are a nice person but think about what you have said?????
Digger writes:
Keep in mind that most Sundown attendees are high schoolers. I wasn't there, but I'd be willing to bet the majority of people cheering at the news of Michael Jackson's death were teens. It's sort of the same mentality of cheering when someone drops their lunch tray in the cafeteria.
It has nothing to do with The South or Knoxville itself... it has everything to do with teens.
cliffjumper50#205931 writes:
Digger, Thanks for putting things into perspective. I can see people cheering if something happened to Abdulajimadad of Iran or whatever his name is. But, MJ was just a sad individual.
PepperGrinder (Inactive) writes:
It was a country act if im not mistaken. So Im guessing the Frog Station listeners were the ones acting in poor taste.
WhitePineVol77 writes:
I'll square up with God just as easily as you will...thanks anyway. I was being fecicious about the money, BTW. I just do not put people like MJ up on a pedestal, and I think our society/media is pathetic for "idolizing" a man of his background. You wait...there will be a sad drug story come out of this, if the family doesn't pony up money to squelch it. In fact, we may never know.
You must be a Christian. It has been said that you cannot be one with being compassionate for someone's plight in life. What was MJ's compassion, do you think, besides making money to pay off his debts? Like I said earlier, most cannot handle prosperity, and he is/was the poster child for that.
Have a good weekend.
JaniaJ writes:
White Pine that is not the point!! We are not discussing whether or not I would take my child to his daycare. Here a man has died and negative peopel such as yourself don't have the morals or respect to let it go and let people remember their icon. Unfortunately there are people with your views all over which is sad. I use to be VERY opinionated also but was only hurting myself and showing how bitter I was inside. Sometimes it is best to keep your true opinions to yurself if yu can't be positive. I was not a fan of let me see Ronald Reagan but would NEVER say anything disrespectful such as the Sundown people and yourself. You were mind but still.
WhitePineVol77 writes:
I guess if you cannot stand the heat, get out of the kitchen and don't read the posts on these sites! This is precisely why they are here. I didn't trash MJ's life...he did. Also, in my first post, I indicated that the cheering was "in bad taste" which it was. But I cannot police the actions, good or bad, of others, nor do I want to. We really need to quit quibbling so others can chime in...it's been real!

You people are funny. All this over a child molester.
They hauled box after box of child porn from that mans house.
Get a grip and get some perspective.

The point of publishing it is that it's important to realize how ignorant some people in this city are. Hello! Why should KNS keep it to themselves just to make Knoxville look better than it is? It also shows, in my opinion, the class of people who attend Sundown these days.
But it was published on a blog first...
AnnieLouWho writes:
This is definitely the most ignorant post I've seen all day. Jackson had LUPUS and vitiligo. He was not "choosing to become white." And I hope you never get accused of a crime. Apparently being accused - even when you're proven innocent in court - is the same as committing a crime. Grow up!

I went to Sundown last Thursday to see the Wailers. If you want to enter a deep, deep depression and lost all hope in humanity, please go to a Sundown concert. The shows are great. But just sit and observe the crowd for about 15 minutes. Then try real, real hard not to kill yourself. Haters, racists and stone drunk rednecks. And that's the girls. Who attend UT. Then there's the inbreeds. God help us all.
The Sundown crowd cheered someone's death. I'm astonished. Not.
Knoxguy writes:
They need to start charging 10-15 bucks a head. Free events always bring out Knoxvilles worst.
It wont keep them all out, but it will cut down on the trash.
AnnieLouWho writes:
Well, Michael Jackson only set up Heal the World, an organization designed to improve the lives of children. And donated to these charities:

Camp Ronald McDonald

I'm not saying the young man who died in Iraq was unworthy of attention. Only that Michael Jackson has done a lot through charities and his music.

Lupus? Vitiligo? What are you on?
WhitePineVol77 writes:
AnnieLouWho is obviously a smitten fan whose facts are made up. How could anyone die owing the millions he owed and was to have endowed all these things? I'm doing the research and so far she is 55% wrong. Wanna know what else is wrong? This guy died and all of a sudden, a colonel with a hitch in WWII and Korea (Ed MacMahon) and a real lady who help enact legislation against domestic violence (Farah Fawcett) drop out of the news...what does that tell us about our sick society?
AnnieLouWho writes:
Honestly, I'm not even that big of a fan. I grew up during Jackson's downward spiral. But I think if you're going to talk about him, you need to know the facts.
He had lupus and a skin disorder that altered the pigmentation of his skin.
Also, where are you getting the information about the child porn? Because I've only found one blog that mentions it, and let's face it - I'm not going to trust it from a blog when anyone could start a blog.
What was I wrong about?
AnnieLouWho writes:
Please link to the media reports of the "car loads" of child porn they carted away.
And who cares if he leaned toward black charities? It's good that he gave to charities at all, and it was his money.
AnnieLouWho writes:
Let me elaborate a bit...I know I'm not wrong about the accusations of child molestation since you can clearly find through Google that both of those accusations proved to be false in a court of law.
The charities were found through Google too, though I didn't listen the humanitarian awards he has won. I don't know what years he endowed these charities, but his debts were not as great during the start of his career.
And you can find his illnesses listed on the web as well. So, please, share with us the "55%" I'm wrong about? Or is it just that you're upset that you were made to look like an uneducated bumpkin by claiming he was a child molester when those claims were never substantiated? Also - if they did find "car loads" of child porn at his ranch, I assure you I would be able to find that online. If you're referring to the two books he was legally allowed to own that were not child pornography that came out during his second trial...well, I guess it takes a bit of comprehension to understand that two books do not equal "car loads" of child porn, especially when they weren't child porn at all.

When I heard this I was wondering who the artist was. Then I heard it was a country artist and it all made sense. Mr Johnson might be a fine man, but most racist rednecks are country fans (not saying most country fans are racist rednecks), so I am sure plenty were there.
MotherNature writes:
First off, I'm disgusted by the cheering. Show some respect, people. The man is dead.
Secondly, AnnieLouWho, he settled a case for millions of dollars prior to the most recent child molestation case. It's not new news. It's been all over the internet today.

Cheering was in bad taste, but don't forget that we are talking about an adult who spooned with children. All you bleeding hearts need to get over it. He's lucky he was found not guilty or we might have been talking about this a couple of years ago rather than now.

Very sad situation. However, bottom line, despite his talent, wealth and fame, he was a criminal, a pedofile.
Tragic waste of such a talented man.

Profile of a Pedophile
By Charles Montaldo, About.com
Pedophiles Like Child-like Activities:
•He is often fascinated with children and child activities appearing to prefer those activities to adult oriented activities.
•He will often refer to children in pure or angelic terms using descriptives like innocent, heavenly, divine, pure, and other words that describe children but seem inappropriate and exaggerated.
•He has hobbies that are child-like such as collecting popular expensive toys, keeping reptiles or exotic pets, or building plane and car models.
*******
Any of that sound familiar?? Instead of idolizing him, we should pity him...for his obvious mental illness.

No, we would not allow our children to go to his day care, or spend the night at his house and that is why we do not know if he is a child molester or not, a woman lost her son, three children lost their dad, a brother was lost and a great entertainer. No, I was not up close and personal with him, but to cheer his death is very disrespectful for everyone around you, that is grieving. I grieve for him, I feel as if I have lost a part of my family, but it is because I grew up listening to him and no matter what has been said, I do not believe he was wrong, if you allow your child to stay over night with an adult man, then you are at fault! Kids are molested everyday by people they know, we as parents try every way we can to protect them from that, if it happens then the molester is to blame, but if you put your child in that position, you are to blame.....No matter what he did or did not do, he is gone now, respect the family and friends that are mourning.
