DEL MCCOURY BAND

There's no act that embodies the spirit of bluegrass more than the Del McCoury Band. The group, which includes high-lonesome-voiced patriarch Del McCoury and his sons Ronnie and Robbie McCoury can both handle the hardcore traditional bluegrass and the progressive stuff. Knoxville's own Van Eaton (who authored some Del McCoury Band favorites) will open the show. The show starts at 8 p.m. Tickets are $26.50, available at Tickets Unlimited outlets and at 865-656-4444.

BEATEN AWAKE

How could you pass up a show by a rock band called Beaten Awake? The Ohio-based act is made up of music veterans, and the group has acted as the backing band for cult/outsider rocker Daniel Johnston. The band will perform at 10 p.m. Saturday with Gamenight and Self-Evident. Admission is $5.

LIKE A HURRICANE

Blues guitarist Roger "Hurricane" Wilson has been lauded by everyone from Les Paul ("He can really play some blues") to Hubert Sumlin ("That boy knows what he's doing"). He'll stop at Brackin's Blues Club, 112 E. Broadway Ave. in Maryville, at 9 p.m. The $2 cover will go to a local food bank, so your night of good blues will help feed a family.

SO EVIL THEY CAN'T EVEN SPEL

Megadeth (as in a whole lot of death!) are just so evil you can't even force them to put an "a" in their name. Leader Dave Mustaine was once a member of Metallica, but they just were just too nice so he parted ways with 'em and called them wimps. The 'deth will be preceded by Machine Head, Suicide Silence and Arcanium at the Valarium. The show starts at 7 p.m. Tickets are $39.50 and are available at Tickets Unlimited. Call 865-656-4444.

FUTURE ISLANDS

Maybe if global warming continues we'll all be living on little islands in the future. I have no idea if the bass-heavy, New-Wavish, Baltimore-based band Future Islands had that in mind when they chose their name, but the group's MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/futureislands) is intriguing. The group will perform at 10 p.m. at Pilot Light. A band called Thank You will open. Admission is $5.

'FANTASTIC MR. FOX'

The new movie "Fantastic Mr. Fox" includes the vocal talents of George Clooney as Mr. Fox and Meryl Streep as Mrs. Fox and Bill Murray as Badger. Not only that, but it's written by Roald Dahl, author of "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory," "Matilta," "The Witches," a stack of other children's classics, and some other really scary stories, and it's directed by Wes Anderson, who gave us "Rushmore," "The Royal Tannenbaums" and "The Life Aquatic With Steve Zissou." It's also created with nice old-fashioned stop-action animation. What better way for the family to spend the night before Thanksgiving? The film is rated PG for "action, smoking and slang humor."

A CHRISTMAS CAROL

You really didn't want to see anything related to Christmas before Thanksgiving, did you?
