It's the season for the music of Tchaikovsky, for beautiful fairies and dancing mice. It's the time of the year for the annual productions of "The Nutcracker" ballet.
First performed in 1892, "The Nutcracker" has become a traditional part of the Christmas holidays for millions around the world. It tells the story of a child named Clara who is given a magical Nutcracker doll. Clara falls asleep to dream of a land filled with fairies, dancing snowflakes, a Mouse King and a Sugar Plum Fairy.
In Knoxville, the ballet performed by two different companies dances through town this weekend and next weekend.
