MEMPHIS — “That Evening Sun” starring Hal Holbrook has been named Best Narrative Feature at the 12th annual Indie Memphis Film Festival.
Holbrook portrays a cantankerous octogenarian who fights to remain on his family farm in East Tennessee. The movie was directed by Scott Teems and filmed in and around Knoxville in the summer of 2008. "That Evening Sun" is based on a short story by William Gay, and on Sunday it was named Best Feature Film at the Secret City Film Festival in Oak Ridge.
Meanwhile, the Indie Memphis Film Festival awarded its Southern Soul of Independent Film Award to Scott Crocker’s “Ghost Bird,” a documentary about the impact in Arkansas of reported sightings of the ivory-billed woodpecker, which had been believed to be extinct.
The weeklong Memphis festival continues through Thursday at Malice’s Studio on the Square at Overtone Square.
