With the highly anticipated Jason Mewes canceling from Adventure Con at the last minute over the past weekend in Pigeon Forge, former “Dukes of Hazzard” star John Schneider helped pull the pop culture show’s proverbial backside out of the fire.

Fans may have been angry that some of their favorites didn’t come to the show as advertised, but Schneider emerged as a crowd favorite, patiently greeting long lines of fans and answering all their trivia questions. If there was a hand to shake or a neck to hug, Schneider didn’t pass up the opportunity.

He even donated blood to Medic during a blood drive on Sunday morning.

What is he doing career-wise these days? Schneider is developing his own projects, including “Crash Dummies,” a show that looks behind insurance scams. That series is scheduled for Spike TV.

He also has a drama pilot in the works for another cable outlet.

Whatever he may be in real life, Schneider jokingly says he’s tired of playing the good-guy parts in TV and movies nowadays. Years of playing the good guy on “Dukes” and then perfect father Jonathan Kent on “Smallville” has typecast Schneider a bit.

He wants juicier roles and is actively seeking them. Schneider envies the kind of darker part Michael C. Hall has on Showtime’s “Dexter.”

“I don’t want to play Dexter’s dad,” he says. “I want to play Dexter ... I want to work harder (in roles).”

n His bad. Why was “Jay and Silent Bob” star Jason Mewes a no-show for Adventure Con, the popular sci-fi/ fantasy / pop culture show held in Pigeon Forge over the past weekend?

According to Adventure Con coordinator Adam Phelps, Mewes failed to get on two flights taking him to Knoxville. Phelps didn’t find out Mewes wasn’t coming until early Saturday morning.

Mewes has reportedly told Phelps that he would make it up to Adventure Con, including paying for his own expenses next time — if he’s invited back to the next Adventure Con.

Mewes agreed to be part of this Adventure Con months ago and was among one of the first guests announced to be part of it.

n Dance fever. Our beloved Johnny Knoxville is a fan of the Fox competition “So You Think You Can Dance”?

New judge Adam Shankman says he is. In fact, E! Online speculates Knoxville might even be a guest judge on the show. “Johnny Knoxville sends me critiques after every show, e-mails me these crazy critiques,” Shankman told E!

“I would be so rich if I had a nickel for every straight guy who came up to me and told me, ‘I know I’m not the demo for this show, but I have to tell you that I love it, man.’”

A few years ago, Johnny Knoxville and I went to the Underground in the Old City, and the boy wasn’t about to dance. He did, however, come up behind me and goose me while I was on the dance floor. I fell to the floor and screamed like a girl. Ah, memories.

John Schneider was a favorite at the recently held Adventure Con in Pigeon Forge. He may be a nice guy in real life, but he wants to be a bad boy — a very bad boy — in his roles.
