KMA Artscapes sale opens with preview

Pottery, paintings, jewelry, sculpture, furniture and glassworks are among the items exhibited and then up for sale in the Knoxville Museum of Art's annual Artscapes event.

The museum's guild presents the 2009 Artscapes, a combination exhibition and auction.

This year, Artscapes is a one-night auction. Previously the silent and live auction events were held on different evenings.

More than 100 works of art - from paintings to tables to earrings to clay sculpture - will be shown at the 1050 World's Fair Park museum starting Saturday, Sept. 19. The items will be on exhibit as a preview of this year's Artscapes Extravaganza 6-9:30 p.m. Oct. 2 at the museum.

The Oct. 2 event will include both a live and silent auction as well as a cocktail buffet. Tickets are $100 a person.

Proceeds from the auction will benefit the museum's education programs.

For reservations to the Artscapes Extravaganza, call Carol Overbey, 865-539-2776.

Looking at the artwork is free. The museum is open 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday through Thursday and Saturday, 10 a.m.-8 p.m. Friday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. There's no admission charge. In addition, the art items for Artscapes can be viewed at the museum web site, www.knoxart.org. Information on the web site also lists the artist and opening bid for each item.
