'VOLAPALOOZA'

Irish rock band Flogging Molly, left, will perform during the 2010 Volapalooza concert at 7 p.m. Friday, April 30, at World's Fair Park.

The group puts on an energetic live show will melodic Celtic-meets-punk music and passionate lyrics, integrating traditional Celtic instruments like violin, mandolin and accordion with the guitars and drums of rock 'n' roll.

Electronic rock band Passion Pit will headline and rapper Asher Roth will open the show. Admission is free for UT students with ID; $15 for the general public. Gates open at 6 p.m.

COFFEY AND ROGERS EXHIBIT

A dual exhibition by Knoxville artists Kelly Coffey and Diana Rogers will be on display May 1-June 4 at Tomato Head, 12 Market Square.

Coffey's works are watercolor paintings. Rogers' pieces will include mixed-media and works on paper.

DINOSAURS!

KSO YOUTH ORCHESTRA CONCERT

The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Youth Orchestra Association will celebrate its 36th Spring Concert at 7 p.m. Monday, May 3, at the Tennessee Theatre, 604 S. Gay St.

The concert will feature all five orchestras in the Association: the Junior Philharmonia, led by Erin Archer; the Philharmonia, led by Katie Hutchinson; the Sinfonia, led by Association General Manager Kathy Hart-Reilly; the Youth Chamber Orchestra, led by Wesley Baldwin; and the Youth Orchestra. Katherine Zhang, Kenneth Trotter and Libby Weitnauer - winners from the 2010 Concerto Competition - will also perform.

Admission is free.

GOO GOO DOLLS

Veteran pop-rock trio Goo Goo Dolls will headline a concert at 8 p.m. Tuesday, May 4, at the Tennessee Theatre, 604 S. Gay St.

Originally a hard-rock group, the band scored its biggest hits with the acoustic ballads "Name" and "Iris."

CINCO DE MAYO

Orquestra Lyrica will entertain during "Fiesta Square Room: A Cinco de Mayo Celebration" at 7 p.m. Wednesday, May 5, at The Square Room, 4 Market Square.

The event will feature an open dance floor, Salsa dance instructors and a special Cafe 4 menu. Admission is $20 in advance, $25 at the door.

LISA HORSTMAN

Award-winning children's book author and illustrator Lisa Horstman, left, will speak at a meeting of the Knoxville Writers' Guild at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 6, at the Laurel Theater, 1538 Laurel Ave. Horstman's latest work is "Squawking Matilda," about a high-maintenance chicken and its human pal. A $1 donation is requested for admission.

SUNDOWN IN THE CITY

Americana singer-songwriter Jill Andrews, left, will perform at 7 p.m. Thursday, May 6, during Sundown in the City on Market Square. Andrews is a former member of the Americana group Everybodfields. The Eli Young Band will headline the evening's entertainment with its country-rock sound. Admission is free.

'BABIES'

Adventurous Bayarjargal, left, of Mongolia, is one of the four title subjects of the new documentary "Babies," scheduled to open in area theaters on Friday, May 7.

The film also follows international babies Mari (Japan), Ponijao (Africa) and Hattie (San Francisco) from birth to their first steps. The film is rated PG.

VESTIVAL 2010

The 10th annual South Knoxville Arts and Heritage Festival, popularly known as Vestival, will be 11 a.m.-7 p.m. Saturday, May 8, at the Candoro Marble Company, 4450 Candora Ave. at Maryville Pike. The event will feature crafts, food, children's activities, belly dancers and live music. Performers include R.B. Morris, Greg Horne, the John Myers Band, the Kevin Abernathy Band, Quartjar, Kelly Jolly, Jeff Barbra and Sarah Pirkle, The Naughty Knots, the Johnson Swingtet, Scarecrow and DeLacey and Jim Myers. A $5 donation is requested.

KSO BIDS FAREWELL

The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will perform Haydn's Symphony No. 45, "Farewell," and other works in a concert of the Chamber Classics Series that also marks the farewell performance of KSO Concertmaster Mark Zelmanovich.
