UT Symphony offers free concerts

'ORCHESTRAL ROMANCE'

What: University of Tennessee Symphony Orchestra concert

When: 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14

Where: James R. Cox Auditorium, Alumni Memorial Building, UT campus

Admission: Free

The University of Tennessee Symphony Orchestra will present a free concert at the James R. Cox Auditorium of the Alumni Memorial Building at 8 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 14.

The program, entitled "Orchestral Romance," will include two works from the Romantic era: Guiseppe Verdi's Overture to "La Forza del Destino" and Piotr Tchaikovsky's Symphony No. 2 in C Minor, "Little Russian."

The concert will also feature UT Professor of Clarinet Gary Sperl's performance of Wolfgang Mozart's Clarinet Concerto in A Major; Sperl will be performing on a rare extended-range basset clarinet, the instrument for which Mozart originally wrote his concerto.

Conducting the program will be Director of Orchestras James Fellenbaum and Rachel Grubb, a senior in UT's College Scholars program, who is majoring in violin and conducting.

Also, the UT Symphony Orchestra will present "Orchestral Romance" at 4 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 10, at the Oak Ridge High School Auditorium. Admission is free and open to the public.
