Morrow: Will locals make cut on 'American Idol'?

— Two East Tennesseans are taking it to another level on "American Idol."

Sevierville policeman Bryan Walker and Vonore, Tenn., resident Vanessa Wolfe are vying for slots in the top 24 contestants during "American Idol's" Hollywood rounds (starting 8 tonight on WTNZ, Channel 43). Of the 188 contestants allowed to advance to Hollywood from the 100,000 showing up for regional auditions, Walker and Wolfe have already beaten huge odds.

However, the Hollywood rounds also amp the pressure and force contestants to work together in teams. So no matter how brilliant Walker or Wolfe may be as solo singers, they may get passed over based on people they are assigned to.

Walker and Wolfe have already taped the Hollywood rounds and know their fate. However, they are under contract not to say a word until after the auditions air.

During the past two seasons, Alcoa teenager Jackie Lee Midkiff and Josiah Leming barely missed being included in the final 24, which includes 12 men and 12 women.

If you can't wait until tonight, reliable Internet spoilers have already spilled the beans on how well they do.

RELEASE. Johnny Knoxville's "Jackass 3-D" has started production because a theatrical release date has already been announced - Oct. 15.

No word on what kind of stunts will be performed or where shooting will take place. However, word has leaked out that Knoxville is researching gay bars in Knoxville, perhaps an indication he would want to shoot here.

According to IMDB.com, Knoxville has three movie projects on his agenda right now besides "3-D." Among the projects are a comedy with Cher and a zombie adventure. He's also producing TV projects and documentaries.

Why make a third "Jackass" film? Well, the first two were made on modest budgets and were hugely profitable for Paramount Pictures. "Jackass: The Movie" and "Jackass: Number Two" both topped the box office charts the weekends they debuted in theaters.

Johnny Knoxville is the stage name for PJ Clapp, a South Knoxville native.

TRIBUTE. Dolly Parton is making plans to be part of a new TV special celebrating Kenny Rogers' 50 years in show business. The special will be shot April 10 in Connecticut.

Meanwhile, we would not be surprised to hear that Rogers will be part of Parton's plans to earmark the 25th anniversary of Dollywood, set for this season. Nothing official has been announced yet, though Parton has said in previous interviews she has big plans for the anniversary season.
