We compare two pop-culture subjects to see which you like better. To be included in next week's tally, vote for your favorite before noon on Monday. This week's match:
ELLEN DEGENERES vs. PAULA ABDUL
Ellen DeGeneres has finally made her way to the judges' table on "American Idol." Now that we've seen her in action, it's very natural to compare her to the woman who had the seat before her - Paula Abdul. They're two different women. Which one do you like better?
JOB EXPERIENCE
Ellen: Well, she's a comedian and a talk show host. Uh, she listens to a LOT of CDs - I mean, like, a LOT - probably more than you. She has her own DJ, too.
Paula: She's a, uh, singer and dancer. She also once pranced around with a cartoon cat. (Is anyone else freaking out that Paula actually has legitimate reasons to be a judge?)
REPUTATION
Ellen: Earned the name of "The Queen of Clean" in daytime TV. She's known for her family-friendly comedy.
Paula: How can we put this? You know the phrase "crazy talk"? Well, Paula's so crazy that she gets paid royalties when someone says the phrase "crazy talk."
WHAT KIND OF JUDGE?
Ellen: Nice but direct (We'd love to see Ugly Ellen come out - and by "ugly" we don't mean Ellen without her Cover Girl makeup. While we're at it, girl, wear a dress once and a while.)
Paula: Nicer and indirect; we'll miss how she claps like a trained seal.
WHY HER?
Ellen: She's supposed to be the voice of the viewer, so her lack of musical experience isn't an issue.
Paula: She's had a major recording career, so she knows what is needed to be a musical performer.
LAST WEEK: Jay Leno vs. Conan O'Brien
Our pick: Conan. Like Hollywood needs another unemployed actor.
Your pick: Conan took the prize with 58 percent of the vote.
