KNOXVILLE — We compare two pop-culture subjects to see which you like better. To be included in next week's tally, vote for your favorite before noon on Monday. This week's match:
REBA MCENTIRE vs. REID SPEED
Oh, no ... snow! George Strait was set to headline a country mega-show tonight at Thompson-Boling Arena with Reba McEntire and Lee Ann Womack, but the show has been rescheduled to April 2 due to expected inclement weather. Also, “psy-trance” band Infected Mushroom and breakbeat DJ Reid Speed, who were slated to perform tonight at The Valarium, have postponed to a date to be determined. So, between Reba and Reid, who would you rather cut a rug with?
BACKGROUND:
McEntire: She has topped the charts with country hits and her own TV show. Also: record producer.
Speed: She's a DJ, record producer and "paradigm shifter." Hey, sometimes those paradigms need shifting. Who ya gonna call?
SIDE PROJECTS:
McEntire: Has her own lines of clothing, shoes, home decor items and luggage. Yep, luggage.
Speed: Runs her own record label, Play Me Records.
SOUNDS
McEntire: Soaring Southern vocals with guitar and fiddle twangin'.
Speed: Budda-budda-budda-budda-bwomp-bwomp-freeow-boom-boom-boom!
THE WORD FROM ONLINE
McEntire: "She's the second best-selling female country artist of all time."
Speed: "She thinks fast, moves fast, mixes fast, talks fast, lives fast."
LAST WEEK: DEREK DOOLEY VS. LANE KIFFIN
Our pick: Derek Dooley, because he made such a nice first impression.
Your pick: Dooley received a warm welcome to Knoxville with 95 percent of the vote (a whopping tally of 1838 to 90).
