The Knoxville Symphony Orchestra will help set the mood for amore when it presents "Romantic Broadway: Music of the Night" 8 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 6, at the Knoxville Civic Auditorim.
The KSO, led by music director Lucas Richman, will perform a program of Broadway hits, including Andrew Lloyd Webber-penned favorites from "Phantom of the Opera," "Cats," "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat," "Evita" and more.
Joining the KSO for the concert will be vocalists Jeff Austin, Dixie Roberts and Katy Wolfe Zahn.
Austin, who has appeared in numerous stage pro-ductions and on TV ("How I Met Your Mother," "Bones" and "JAG," among others) and film ("Arma-geddon," "L.A. Confidential"), has shared the stage with Richman before. Some of their projects together include "An Evening of Gershwin" at the Descanso Gardens in LaCanada, California and "A Tribute to Sondheim" for the Pittsburgh Pops.
Roberts is a recent graduate of Wichita State University with a master's of music in opera performance. She received her bachelor's of fine arts in musical theatre from Viterbo University. According to a press release, some of her favorite music theatre roles have included playing Audrey in "Little Shop of Horrors," Rizzo in "Grease" and soloist work in "Get Happy: A Harold Arlen Review."
A versatile performer in both opera and musical theater, Zahn has appeared extensively throughout East Tennessee. Some of her credits include playing Carmen with the Knoxville Opera Company, and Jenny in "Threepenny Opera" with the Oak Ridge Symphony and Mrs. Walker in Clarence Brown Theatre's "Tommy."
In April, she will be seen as Aldonza in Clarence Brown's season finale production "Man of La Mancha."
