POWER TRIO WEEK, PART ONE: LESLIE

The hard-rock trio called Leslie, left, from will perform at 10 p.m. Friday, July 9, at Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria, 200 E. Jackson Ave.

The Charleston, S.C., group - featuring Sadler Vaden, Jason Fox and Jonathan Carman - has a hard-driving sound, as heard on its "Rebel Soul" release and at www.lesliemusic.com.

Reconvened Knoxville band 30 Amp Fuse will also perform during this "Funhouse Rock Live" event.

'THE SECRET GARDEN'

Children's Theatre of Knoxville will present the classic Frances Hodgson Burnett tale of "The Secret Garden" at 3 and 7 p.m. Saturday, July 10, at the company's theater, 800 Tyson St.

The Whigs, left, blast out of Athens, Ga., once again with their latest collection of Southern garage rock, "In the Dark."

Hot on the heels of several late-night TV appearances, the rock trio will perform along with The Hold Steady at 9 p.m. Monday, July 12, at The Square Room, 4 Market Square. Admission is $17 in advance, $20 at the door.

DARK HOLLOW BAND

The Knoxville-based Dark Hollow Band will perform during the WFIV Homegrown Live show 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, July 14, at Disc Exchange, 2615 Chapman Highway.

Admission is free. The concert will be broadcast live on WFIV 105.3 FM.

'INCEPTION'

Ellen Page and Leonardo DiCaprio, from left, star in the science-fiction thriller "Inception," opening July 16 in area theaters.

DiCaprio plays a thief skilled in the art of "extraction," stealing elements of information from within people's minds during sleep. His skills are highly sought-after in the field of corporate espionage, but he is also on the run because of it. He has a chance to redeem himself, but it will be risky. Why wouldn't it?

The film is rated PG-13.

'THE SORCERER'S APPRENTICE'

Nicolas Cage and Moncia Bellucci, from left, star in the fantasy-adventure film "The Sorcerer's Apprentice," opening July 16 in area theaters. Cage plays a veteran wizard who recruits an average-Joe New Yorker (Jay Baruchel) to help protect the city against his arch-enemy (Alfred Molina). The film is rated PG.

Colorful, kinetic and highly energetic Knoxville rock 'n' roll quartet Matgo Primo will make a rare concert appearance at 10 p.m. Saturday, July 17, at Pilot Light, 106 E. Jackson Ave. Admission is $5.

MODEST MOUSE

Popular rock band Modest Mouse has something to brag about this week. It sold out The Valarium for this Sunday-night concert. The show starts at 8 p.m. Sunday, July 18, for the several hundred lucky "Mouse-keteers."
