East Tennessee resident Ella Nolan, who was on the last edition of "The Bachelor," has definitely picked sides in this whole Jake and Vienna breakup.
When considering the split, "it doesn't surprise me," says Nolan. "Jake is not what ABC made him out to be."
Nolan was among the women vying for airline pilot Jake Pavelka, who eventually selected Vienna Girardi as his gal. Now, six months later, Pavelka and Girardi have had a very public and heated breakup, which boiled over on the July 5 installment of "The Bachelorette."
During the segment, Girardi cried as she accused Pavelka of being emotionally vacant and physically unresponsive to her. In return, Pavelka laughed off her claims and yelled at her to stop interrupting him.
Nolan is not shocked to hear such allegations.
"Jake is all about the camera, very fake," says Nolan, who is now engaged and planning a spring 2011 wedding to a man in the military. "It's very sad because I think Vienna really did love him.
"She was all caught up in this fairy tale, and now she's had an awakening. ... I am very, very proud of Vienna standing up for herself."
By picking Girardi, Pavelka created "an easy way out" because he would eventually break up with her anyway, Nolan says. Since Girardi was not exactly an audience favorite on "The Bachelor," a breakup with her would not be unheard of.
Pavelka was never interested in romance or a wedding, she says. He was on "The Bachelor" to get an acting career off the ground.
"He was not about finding a wife. It was all about the camera. It was all about the publicity," she says. "That was his whole plan."
Since "The Bachelor" ended, Pavelka has done "Dancing with the Stars," Lifetime's "Drop Dead Diva" and will be starring in "The Bachelor" spin-off "Bachelor Pad," coming in August.
Nolan has been in touch with most of the women from "The Bachelor," and the subject of the Pavelka and Girardi breakup is a given for them.
On July 5, Nolan's cell phone was "burning up" with calls from her fellow ex-contestants, all wanting to chat about the heated Pavelka and Girardi interview.
Rumors that Pavelka drew his fist at one point, off camera, to Girardi during "The Bachelorette" segment doesn't surprise Nolan. However, she says she never saw Pavelka display that kind of behavior during her time on "The Bachelor."
"There's no telling whatever happened behind closed doors" between the two of them, Nolan says.
