'LISTEN UP, KNOXVILLE'

The Lake Terrace Trio will be the feature act for the "Listen Up, Knoxville" music night at 8 p.m. Monday, July 26, at Relix Variety Theatre, 1208 N. Central St.

The string trio's performance will cap off an evening of open-mic musical competition, with weekly winners advancing to a planned December finals round.

Mia Wasikowska, left, plays the daughter of a lesbian couple who, along with her brother (Josh Hutcherson), contacts the man (Mark Ruffalo) whose donation helped her mothers conceive in the new film "The Kids Are Alright." Annette Bening and Julianne Moore also star in the R-rated comedy-drama, scheduled to open Friday, July 30, at Downtown West.

'DINNER FOR SCHMUCKS'

Paul Rudd plays Tim, a rising business executive who needs to find the perfect guest to bring to his boss's dinner party in the new comedy "Dinner for Schmucks."

His boss hosts an annual "Dinner for Extraordinary People," in which whoever brings the most eccentric guest "wins." Tim brings Barry (Steve Carell, left, with Jemaine Clement), a guy with a passion for dressing mice up to re-create works of art.

The cast of the PG-13-rated film includes Zach Galifianakis and Chris O'Dowd ("The IT Crowd"). It is scheduled to open Friday, July 30, in area theaters.
