— We compare two pop-culture subjects to see which you like better. To be included in next week's tally, vote for your favorite before noon Monday. This week's match:

SALT vs. PEPPER

Since the dawn of time, man has debated the worthiness of salt and pepper. OK. Who are we kidding? That's never happened. Well, maybe it did to ancient people who never went out on a Saturday night. But, still, we can chew this over, can't we?

CONNOTATIONS

Salt: Bad. In the Bible, a woman was turned to salt because she looked the wrong way at the wrong time.

Pepper: Good. It's well-educated. Case in point: Dr. Pepper. (Who's ever heard of Dr. Salt? Maybe Nurse Salt, sure. But not a doctor.)

15 MINUTES OF FAME

Salt: It has big-screen appeal. Angelina Jolie stars in a thriller called "Salt," out today.

Pepper: Pepper Martin was a baseball player in the 1930s. Who doesn't love baseball?

REACTIONS

Salt: You might get bashed in the head if you're too "salty."

Pepper: Salt is salt, but pepper has a life: banana pepper, bell pepper and even chili pepper.

HARM OR HARMLESS?

Salt: Drinking salt water is bad.

Pepper: Pepper spray can help you bring down a towering bully.

LAST WEEK: LeBRON JAMES vs. LANE KIFFIN

Our pick: LeBron James. Do we have a choice otherwise?

Your pick: LeBron James got 65 percent of the vote.
