"Tonight" host Jay Leno is letting Knoxville-based DIY channel take control of the mess he's made.
We're not talking career mess. This is closer to home. According to DIY, Leno's six-car garage is filled with broken furniture, piles of clothes and old memorabilia. Leno and his wife, Mavis, get assistance from DIY's "Garage Mahal" team to clean up the mess and renovate the garage.
The episode will air 9 p.m. Friday, April 9.
The transformation, says DIY, includes a 22-foot in-floor turntable carved out of concrete, custom mahogany doors operated by high-tech fingerprint access and a universal remote, and an industrial-style bathroom with a plasma-cut sink. Underneath the main garage, a subterranean storage unit is turned into a modern presidential library for his beloved car magazines and books.
Leno's wife gets a major remodel, including a refurbished floor, new and updated lighting, and extra-large cabinets to display memorabilia.
Bill Goldberg, former professional wrestler, is the new host of "Garage Mahal" and helped oversee the work on Leno's garage.
n GUEST SHOT. Knoxville-area native Elaine Hendrix is a guest star on the next episode of "The Mentalist" (which airs at 10 tonight on WVLT, Channel 8). "Everyone was so nice, from the guest cast to the regulars to the crew. And for all the comedy I do, I also do a lot of drama. They're both fun. I like going back and forth," she says.
In the episode, the team investigates the murder of an arrogant chef during a cooking competition in Napa Valley. Hendrix's character is named Julia.
n VIEWING ALERT. Knoxville's Didi Benami will find out if she moves onward to the top 16 on "American Idol" (8 tonight, WTNZ, Channel 43). Meanwhile, Knoxville native Ben Wade is in the spotlight on "Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains" (8 tonight, WVLT, Channel 8), where he confesses the pressure is getting to him.
n BABY. On NBC's "The Office," Jim and Pam welcome their baby into the world (9 tonight, WBIR, Channel 10). The birth is an hour-long episode.
n FINDERS KEEPERS. TLC's "Hoarding: Buried Alive" looks into what makes so many of us hoarders. The series premieres March 14. According to TLC, "the series explores the fascinating and disturbing world of hoarders, diving deeper from a mental-health perspective to examine causes, obstacles, repercussions and treatment plans."
Hoarding, says TLC, affects an estimated 700,000 to 1.4 million Americans.
