Patricia Heaton, right, stars in ABC's "The Middle." The actress will be in Knoxville March 20 for the annual Women Today event.
KNOXVILLE — Patricia Heaton is happy for her ex-TV husband, Ray Romano, these days.
"I used to give him a hard time about everything in fun," Heaton said recently of the comic who played her husband on "Everybody Loves Raymond." "I just wrote two gushy e-mails telling him how much I love his new show. He said the e-mails (touched) him so much he couldn't respond for a few days."
Heaton, who'll be a guest at Women Today at the Knoxville Convention Center on Saturday, March 20, is a big fan of Romano's new TNT comedy-drama "Men of a Certain Age," a look at three middle-aged best friends. The show has been a ratings hit, and critics praise it. The series comes along at the same time that Heaton has also found comedy success with "The Middle" on ABC.
She is especially proud of Romano's return to TV. "When comedians have their own show (that is) tailored to their humor, they have a hard time finding something else once that show is over. But this new (series of his) is terrific.
"It's so well acted, written and produced. It's wonderful. I am very impressed with what he has done. It's very unusual for a stand-up (comedian) to do."
As for Heaton's return to series TV this season, she said she wasn't so certain she wanted to do "The Middle."
"When I heard the idea for the show, I thought, 'Do I really want to play another wife and mother?' But once I saw the script and saw (the series) was from her point of view, I really liked the idea," she said. "Also, I had never done a single-camera comedy before and that was something new."
Among the things on Heaton's agenda while she is in Knoxville: appearing onstage at the convention center at 12:30 p.m. Saturday.
Will "Wizards of Waverly Place" be pulling a disappearing act?
Disney Channel's "Wizards of Waverly Place" co-star Jennifer Stone, who plays the quirky Harper Finkle, says she isn't sure of the show's future after this season, which is still in production. "It's one of those things. You never know," says the 17-year-old actress.
"I know we are going to finish up this season. It's up in the air whether we'll come back for another one. Only time will tell."
And if the series does end?
"I want it to have a real ending," she says. "I just don't want it to end and that's that. I want to see a button to the whole thing."
You can meet Stone on Sunday when she makes an appearance at Women Today, where she will hosting a fashion show in the afternoon.
In what universe are Sandra Bullock and East Tennessee native Megan Fox nominated for the same acting award? That would be the Razzies, the annual satirical honor for the worst in films.
Bullock won for her summer romantic comedy "All About Steve." However, Fox was up for the award for her turn in "Transformers 2."
Fox may be great to behold and have a winning personality, but no one accuses her of being a great actress.
