KNOXVILLE — Arrowmont artists' exhibit at school
Four current resident artists at Arrowmont School of Arts in Gatlinburg are exhibiting works they've created at the school.
The exhibit is on display through May 1 at Arrowmont's Sandra J. Blain Gallery. Exhibiting works are metalsmith Victoria Altepeter, ceramic artist Thaddeus Erdahl, clay artist Martina Lantin and wood artist Kent Perdue.The Blain gallery hours are 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m. weekdays.
Arrowmont's program for resident artists, now in its 19th year, is for people who are working early in their careers. Artists apply annually for the program.
Author Wiles to speak at UT Tuesday
Author Deborah Wiles, who has written a number of books for young readers, speaks at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 23 at the University of Tennessee. Her speech is sponsored by UT's Center for Children's and Young Adult Literature.
Wiles will discuss her new book, "Countdown," which tells the story of a 12-year-old who lives in Washington, D.C., during the 1960s Cuban missile crisis. The free event is at the Hodges Library auditorium.
Wiles also wrote two picture books, "One Wild Sky" and "Freedom Summer" as well as the novels "Love, Ruby Lavender," "Each Little Bird That Sings" and "The Aurora County All-Stars."
'Feminists are Funny' coming to UT
The theater collective Guerilla Girls on Tour perform 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 23, at the University Center Auditorium, University of Tennessee.
The performance is brought to UT by the university's Women's Coordinating Council.
The 70-minute play "Feminists are Funny" focuses on the lack of opportunities for women and people of color. The performance of "herstory," includes stories in politiics, activism and performing arts.
