KSO Pops reveal upcoming series

Trumpeter Chris Botti and tributes to John Denver and John Williams will highlight the 2010-11 Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Pops series.

The series will kick off with the "John Williams Spectacular" on Saturday, Oct. 16. The program will feature music from the Academy Award-winning composer's many film soundtracks, including "Star Wars," "Jaws," "Superman" and "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone."

The series will follow with "Clayton Valentine's Pops: Romantic Broadway" on Saturday, Feb. 5, 2011, and will feature orchestral works from popular Broadway musicals and Hollywood film scores.

On Saturday, March 12, 2011, singer Jim Curry will join the KSO Pops for a night featuring the music of late singer-songwriter John Denver. Denver's hits include "Take Me Home, Country Roads," "Sunshine On My Shoulders," "Rocky Mountain High" and "Thank God I'm a Country Boy." Curry is the voice heard in the CBS TV movie "Take Me Home: The John Denver Story," and Curry has performed his Denver tribute show at venues throughout the United States.

Smooth-jazz star Chris Botti will conclude the series on Saturday, May 7, 2011. Since the release of Botti's 1995 debut album, he has become one of the best selling jazz instrumentalists in the country. Botti's 2006 PBS special "Chris Botti: Live with Orchestra and Special Guests" helped spread his fame. He has also had several Grammy nominations.

Season subscriptions range from $265 to $103 and will go on sale Monday, March 29. Subscribers will also receive a 20 percent discount on additional tickets and access to

early sales for other KSO events, including an upcoming production of "Amadeus," which is a collaboration between the KSO and the Clarence Brown Theatre.
