KNOXVILLE — MASTODON
Atlanta heavy metal band Mastodon is one of those acts that redefines heaviness. The group is, from left below, bassist Troy Sanders, guitarist Bill Kelliher, guitarist Brent Hinds and drummer Brann Dailor. All members sing. That's how heavy they are.
The band will perform along with Between the Buried and Me, Baroness and Valient Thorr at 7 p.m. Friday, May 21, at The Valarium, 1213 Western Ave. Admission is $23 in advance, $25 at the door. The venue charges a $3 surcharge for patrons younger than 21.
BOB DYLAN BIRTHDAY BASH
The annual Bob Dylan Birthday Bash will be 2-8 p.m. Saturday, May 22, at World's Fair Park. Performers will include the Greg Horne, Carawan Family, Y'uns, Van Eaton, Black Lillies, Scott Lee, Tim Lee, Gnarly Whals, Running Dogs, MacDaddies, Early Morning Stringdusters and the Salamander Kings. 'FLOOD OF LOVE'
Folks from the Farragut High School Class of 1986 have organized a benefit concert and silent auction to help classmates who lost their homes in the recent Nashville flood. "Flood of Love for Nashville" will feature Tall Paul, Michael Crawley, Frankenfoot, David Helton, Doug Shock, Jason Ellis, Tod Sheley, Chris Youngblood and the "FHS allstars."
Auction items will include UT memorabilia, Atlanta Braves tickets and more.

Rock-music icon Neil Young, below, will bring his "Twisted Road" tour to town at 8 p.m. Thursday, May 27, at the Civic Auditorium, 500 Howard Baker Ave.
Young is performing solo on acoustic guitar for this tour, so it's a rare intimate evening with the rock singer-songwriter. His latest album was 2009's "Fork in the Road" and he's currently recording a new album with ace producer Daniel Lanois.
British folk legend Bert Jansch will open the show. Admission is $225, $125, $95 or $75.
'SEX AND THE CITY 2'
Sarah Jessica Parker, below, steps into the role of New York writer Carrie Bradshaw once more for "Sex and the City 2," the second big-screen foray for the HBO comedy series.
In this tale, Carrie and her pals Charlotte (Kristin Davis), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon) and Samantha (Kim Cattrall) take a vacation trip to a ritzy part of the Middle East. There, they examine their lives and ponder life's exotic temptations. It's the same stuff they would do in New York, but with sand.
The R-rated film opens Thursday, May 27, in area theaters.
'PRINCE OF PERSIA'
Jake Gyllenhaal, left, plays an adventurous prince from ancient Persia in the new fantasy action film - you guessed it - "Prince of Persia." He teams up with a rival princess (Gemma Arterton) to keep a magic dagger from falling into the wrong hands. The film is rated PG-13 and opens Friday, May 28, in area theaters.
