FILM FESTIVAL

The Downtown Film Festival opens at 10a.m. Sunday, Nov. 7, at the Capitol Theatre, 127 W. Broadway, Maryville.

This new festival is a competition and showcase for touring films, documentaries, music videos, new media and more. Filmmakers had five days to produce short films using three designated elements.

'MORNING GLORY'

A young upstart TV producer (Rachel McAdams) tries to wrangle the feuding hosts (Diane Keaton and Harrison Ford) and revivie the ratings of a struggling morning news program in the film "Morning Glory." The PG-13-rated film opens Wednesday, Nov. 10. The cast also includes Jeff Goldblum, Patrick Wilson and 50 Cent.

THE FEATURES HEADLINE BROCK-A-THON

Nashville rock band The Features will headline a benefit concert at 9 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 11, at The Valarium, 112 Ramsey St. Proceeds from the show will help out Knoxville guitarist Brock Henderson, who recently incurred some hefty medical bills that aren't fully covered by insurance. Henderson, who will also perform with his band The Brockefellers, hopes the show will draw attention to the health-insurance woes of professional musicians.

Ian Thomas and J.C. and the Dirty Smokers will also perform. Admission is $10.

Strange lights from the sky draw the attention of Los Angeles citizens, heralding the arrival of an alien invasion in the science-fiction adventure film "Skyline."

The cast includes Donald Faison ("Scrubs"), left, Eric Balfour, Scottie Thompson and David Zayas. The film is rated PG-13 and opens Friday, Nov. 12.
