Children's poet Prelutsky cancels West High performance

KNOXVILLE - While children's poet Jack Prelutsky will be appearing twice this weekend in Knoxville as scheduled, a Monday evening lecture at West High School has been canceled.

Illness has caused scheduling problems for the nation's first children's poet laureate, author of "Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant," "A Pizza the Size of the Sun" and "The Dragons are Singing Tonight."

A lecture at the University of Tennessee on Wednesday was canceled, and the makeup event rescheduled for Monday at West High has been scrubbed.

But still slated to be presented are Saturday's free "Jack Prelutsky's Family Performance" at 2 p.m. at the East Tennessee History Center, 601 S. Gay St., as well as Sunday's 2 p.m. Knoxville Symphony Orchestra Family Concert at the Tennessee Theatre, titled "Behold the Bold Umbrellaphant."

More details as they develop online and in Friday's News Sentinel.
