HARD KNOX BLUES BASH

The Hard Knox Blues Bash will feature some of Knoxville's most prominent blues musicians in concert 3-10 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Old City Courtyard, adjacent to Barley's on Jackson Avenue.

Labron Lazenby & LA3, Chico & The Men and Relentless Blues will each perform with special guests, the Hard Knox Blues All-Stars.

Performers will include "Detroit" Dave Meer, Michael Crawley, Ed Corts, Jenna Jefferson, Danny Michel and Chico Crawford. The Harp Dogs will open the show along with Austin Crum, the 11-year old blues sensation from Newport, and his family band.

Admission is $5-$7 in general, $2 for ages 13-17, $4 with Brewer's Jam bracelet.

UT FACULTY CHAMBER SERIES

The University of Tennessee music faculty will perform a concert in its chamber-music series at 4 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 17, at the Knoxville Museum of Art, 1050 World's Fair Park Drive.

The concert will feature an original work by Brendan McConville. A reception with the musicians will be at 3 p.m. before the concert.

'BICYCLE DREAMS'

Stephen Auerbach's documentary "Bicycle Dreams" chronicles the Race Across America, a 3,000-mile coast-to-coast bike race. The film will be screened at 7 p.m. at the Clayton Center for the Arts, 502 E. Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville. Admission is $10 in general, $5 for Maryville College students.

WOE IS 'WOYZECK'

The existential drama "Woyzeck," by 19th-century playwright George Buchner, will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct.20, at the Carousel Theatre on the University of Tennessee campus.

NOW YOU SWINGTET

Folk-pop band Now You See Them and acoustic gypsy-swing ensemble the Johnson Swingtet will perform during the WDVX Blue Plate Special noon-1 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 21, at the Knoxville Convention Center, 301 S. Gay St.

'HEREAFTER'

Director Clint Eastwood presents the film drama "Hereafter," the story of three people who face mortality in very different ways. Matt Damon, (below right with Bryce Dallas Howard) plays a blue-collar American with a curious connection to the afterlife whose path converges with a French journalist (Cecile de France) rattled by a near-death experience and a British youth who loses his twin brother (roles played by Frankie and George McLaren). The film, rated PG-13, is scheduled to open Friday, Oct. 22.

'WAITING FOR "SUPERMAN" '

Filmmaker Davis Guggenheim ("An Inconvenient Truth," "It Might Get Loud") examines problems in the U.S. education system in the film "Waiting For 'Superman'," opening Friday, Oct. 22, at Downtown West Theatre. The documentary follows a group of promising students such as Anthony, left, through their experiences in the public school system and spotlights their hopes for higher educations.

MIC HARRISON & THE HIGH SCORE

Knoxville Americana-rockers Mic Harrison & The High Score will headline a concert at 8 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, at The Shed at Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson, 1820 Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville.

"Avant garde, operatic folk music" might sound like a far-fetched entertainment proposition to some, but the duo known as Faun Fables delivers its theatrical style with personality and charm.
