The Insider: ET to cover the tube for 2010 fall season

From Johnson City to Sevierville, the 2010 fall TV season has East Tennessee talent spread all around.

DAVID KEITH

Series: “Lone Star,” a soapy drama about a con man (James Wolk) who pulls a fast one on two women he professes to love.

Where: 9 p.m. Mondays, Fox

Role: John Allen, the father of the con man. John is a master conniver and has trained his son in the ways of a good scam.

ET connection: Born and bred in Knoxville, Keith graduated from the University of Tennessee and has spent his life in Knoxville — even commuting across country when he’s on a weekly series.

MATT CZUCHRY

Series: “The Good Wife,” which enters its second season next week and has earned some major Emmy nominations this year.

Where: 10 p.m. Tuesdays, CBS

Role: The ambitious Cary Agos, a junior partner in the law firm where the aforementioned “good wife” (Julianna Margulies) works.

ET connection: He’s a native of the Johnson City area, where his parents still live. His father is a professor at East Tennessee State University.

MATTHEW SETTLE

Series: “Gossip Girl,” the buzz-worthy teen soap launching its third season.

Where: 9 p.m. Mondays, CW

Role: The rock ’n’ roller-turned-responsible dad Rufus Humphries.

ET connection: The son of a minister, Settle was raised in Sevier County, where his parents still live. After he graduated high school, Settle left for New York City and got into acting.

JAMES DENTON

Series: “Desperate Housewives,” which continues to be a staple on ABC’s schedule.

Where: 9 p.m. Sundays, ABC

Role: Mike Delfino, the handy man on the block that all the housewives would love to see fiddle with their plumbing.

ET connection: Though Denton is a Nashville native, he made his home in Knoxville for several years while getting his degree at the University of Tennessee.

RYAN MURPHY

Series: “Glee,” the hit Fox comedy-musical.

Where: 8 p.m. Tuesdays, Fox

Role: A writer and director, Murphy helped create “Glee” and is one of the creative forces actively behind the series.

ET connection: Moving here from Indiana, Murphy’s first professional writing gig was as a reporter for the News Sentinel. He was assigned minor police beat duties but quickly asked to be reassigned to writing fashion and trend stories. His columns were so popular that they were given space on the front page.

PAULA PELL

Series: “30 Rock,” which stars Tina Fey.

Where: 8:30 p.m. Thursdays, NBC

Role: She has a history with Fey, having worked with her on “Saturday Night Live.” Now, she is a producer on “30 Rock.”

ET connection: She moved to Knoxville and is a graduate of the University of Tennessee. She also worked at the food court at West Town Mall. As a UT student, she was in awe of the football games and also worked at an alternative health food store. “I look back on this days with rose-tinted glasses,” she said, “but do I remember being broke a lot like most college students.”
