Knoxville's Ashley Johnston shields herself from the elements on the May 18, 2010, episode of "The Biggest Loser."
Knoxville resident Ashley Johnston is stepping up her romance with fellow “Biggest Loser” contestant Koli Palu.
She’s moving to California, where they will share a house. The two are in a committed relationship, and the move will help cement that.
They aren’t engaged — yet. On Tuesday of this week, Johnston was packing up. She’ll be in California by Sunday.
“It’s hard doing long distance ... It gets tiresome,” she said. “It just gets tiresome that we just can’t live our normal lives together.”
Johnston has flirted with the idea of moving to California since she was on “Biggest Loser” in 2010. She originally wanted to move to Los Angeles, but she and Palu will make their home in the San Francisco area, where he lives.
“We know we can do this long distance,” she said. Being in the same city will only help them, she said.
“From people I know who have had long-distance relationships, (moving to the same city) is the best thing to do,” she said. “They say (relationships) only get better because the stress is gone. We’re ready to take the next step.”
Johnston said her family is excited for her new adventure.
“I am ready for marriage,” she said. “You know how women are. By the time you are 30, you want to be married and have children. My mom was married and had children by (age) 21.
She and Palu, “want to make sure it works,” before they go into marriage.
Career-wise, Johnston’s life is a busy one, too. She’s a personal trainer and makes public appearances.
Palu is opening up a gym. Both are staying fit as a result of their time on the NBC reality show.
The two have “Biggest Loser” distinctions, too.
Palu was the “at-home” winner of season nine, meaning he kept losing the weight while off the show. Johnston lost the most weight of any woman on campus, dropping 183 pounds on the show.
Needless to say, being on “Biggest Loser” changed the lives of Johnston and Palu more than either one of them expected.
