Saturday, Aug. 20: Smokin' Day Festival

The Smokin' Day Fest will feature Austin musician Seth Walker, local legends the Detroit Daddies, R&B band Groove Therapy and Texas Tony and the Tornado Ramblers at Sweet P's Barbecue & Soul House, 3725 Maryville Pike.

Elvis impersonator Allen Lemmons will perform his Las Vegas style Elvis act throughout the day.

Sunday, Aug. 21: 'Best Kept Secrets' of comedy

NYC comedians Andrew Schulz, Dan Frigolette, Adam Chisnall and Joe Zielinski will perform at 8 p.m. in The Speakeasy on the second Floor of Preservation Pub, 28 Market Square.

University of Tennessee student Riley Fox will host the event. Admission is $5.

Monday, Aug. 22: Hudson River Plane Crash Survivor

Vallie Collins was among the passengers of U.S. Airways Flight 1549 when it crashed into the Hudson River on Jan. 15, 2009. She will share details of her experiences in a talk at 7 p.m. at the Blount County Public Library, 508 N. Cusick St., Maryville.

Collins lives in Maryville with her husband and three children.

Tuesday, Aug. 23: Six Organs of Admittance

Guitarist Ben Chasny performs in the vein generally known as "psych-folk" under the moniker Six Organs of Admittance. If you've never heard of that style of music, you should know that it's acoustic (more or less) and off the beaten path. Chasney also throws in some droning tones, chimes and percussion.

Experience the music at 10 p.m. at Pilot Light, 106 E. Jackson Ave. Donovan Quinn will open the show. Admission is $10.

Wednesday, Aug. 24: Gillian Welch and David Rawlings

Acoustic guitar-and-vocals Americana duo Gillian Welch and David Rawlings will entertain at 8 p.m. at the Tennessee Theatre, 604 S. Gay St.

Welch is known for her soulful vocals and stark storytelling. Rawlings adds harmonies and stellar guitar playing.

Thursday, Aug. 25: Jack's Mannequin

Musician Andrew McMahon has been through a lot in the last few years. After his old band Something Corporate took a break in 2004, he began recording under the name Jack's Mannequin, toured with Weezer and other big names and released a documentary about his treatment and recovery from leukemia.

Now preparing to release his third album, "People and Things," McMahon will bring his Jack's Mannequin show to town at 8 p.m. at the Bijou Theatre, 803 S. Gay St. Admission is $25 in advance, $27 at the door.

Friday, Aug. 26: 'Our Idiot Brother'

Ned (Rudd) is a not-too-bright, and painfully honest, organic farmer who has to live with his sisters after getting kicked off the farm. The cast includes Zooey Deschanel, Emily Mortimer and Elizabeth Banks. The film is rated R.

Saturday, Aug. 27: Connie Smith

Country-music singer Connie Smith, the 2011 artist-in-residence at the Country Music Hall of Fame, will perform a free in-store show at 3 p.m. at Disc Exchange, 2615 Chapman Highway.

Smith's latest album, titled "Long Line of Heartaches," is scheduled for release on Tuesday, Aug. 23.

The top wakeboarders from around the world will show off their stuff 8:30 a.m.-5 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 27, and 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 27, on the downtown Knoxville waterfront near Volunteer Landing.
