Friday, Aug. 26: Erick Baker

Knoxville singer-songwriter Erick Baker, above, will perform in a sold-out concert at 8 p.m. at the Bijou Theatre, 803 S. Gay St.

This marks Baker's fourth sold out Bijou appearance in the past two years, performing his very personal songs from discs like "It's Getting to Late to Say It's Early," "Holding the Pieces in Place" and, appropriately, "Live at the Bijou."

Saturday, Aug. 27: January Avenue

Knoxville rock band January Avenue will celebrate the release of its new CD at 8 p.m. at The Ciderhouse, 112 Ramsey St.

The trio is singer-guitarist Kevin Griffin, drummer Josh Llewellyn and bass player Paul Wray.

Sunday, Aug. 28: Smokies baseball

Monday, Aug. 29: The Donkeys

The Donkeys, left, are an upbeat indie-rock band from San Diego. Their latest album is "Born With Stripes." The foursome will headline a concert at 10 p.m. at Pilot Light, 106 E. Jackson Ave.

Tuesday, Aug. 30: Epic Superfail

Epic Superfail, of Kingsport, will bring its "stupid, progressive, fun, alternative-rock" to town for a performance live and on the Internet at 11 a.m. during the 11 O'Clock Rock show on www.knoxivi.com.

Wednesday, Aug. 31: Blue Plate Special

Americana and folk singer-songwriters Sam Lewis and Glenn Spayth will entertain noon-1 p.m. during the WDVX Blue Plate Special at the Knoxville Visitors Center, 301 S. Gay St.

The performance will be broadcast live on WDVX 89.9 and 102.9 FM and online via www.wdvx.com. Admission is free.

Thursday, Sept. 1: Bloodroots Barter

"Voodoo grass" acoustic Americana The Bloodroots Barter comes straight out of Hyden, Ky., in a vegetable-oil-powered school bus.

The ensemble will join forces with The Lost River Cavemen of Bowling Green for a hootenanny at 10 p.m. at Preservation Pub, 28 Market Square.

Friday, Sept. 2: 'Shark Night'

As the name implies, the group of friends unexpectedly encounter ravenous fresh-water sharks, far left, and their weekend is ruined. The film is rated PG-13.

Saturday, Sept. 3: Kentucky Headhunters

Raucous country-rock ensemble the Kentucky Headhunters will headline a concert at 8 p.m. at The Shed at Smoky Mountain Harley-Davidson, 1820 Lamar Alexander Parkway, Maryville.

Sunday, Sept. 4: Boomsday

It's Boomsday time again! The annual Labor Day-weekend fireworks show will top off an afternoon and evening of festivities that run 1-10 p.m. on the downtown Knoxville waterfront.

Somewhere amid the colorful explosions, there will be an announcement of big happenings at Dollywood.

Admission is free.
