This weekend brings two very different shows to Knoxville. If you are the parent of young children who love Disney, there's something for you. But if you are a person who enjoys bull riding instead of cartoon mice, there's a show for you too.
Let's start with Disney. A time exists in each parent's life when he is more familiar with the life and times of Mickey or Elmo or Buzz Lightyear than he may know about world events or his favorite sports team. If such a description fits your family, you probably already know about the upcoming touring show "Mickey's Magic Show" coming to Knoxville this month.
"Disney Live! Mickey's Magic Show" is at the Knoxville Civic Auditorium for two days. Shows are at 7 p.m. Feb. 18 and 4:30 p.m. Feb. 19. Tickets are $18-$45, plus service fees. Tickets are available at Tickets Unlimited, 865-656-4444, or htp://www.knoxvilletickets.com.
The show, presented by Disney On Ice producers Feld Entertainment, is all about magic and memories, Disney-style.
The production combines magic and illusion from professional illusionist Brad Ross with music, characters and imagination from well-known Disney movies and characters. Mickey Mouse, of course, plays a key role as a magician. The show also includes appearances from such characters as Cinderella, Snow White, Minnie Mouse, Goofy and Donald Duck.
Now to the real-life bulls and the cowboys who challenge them. The Professional Bull Riders event is 7:30 p.m. Feb. 12 at Thompson-Boling Arena on the UT campus. Among the competitors is Cookeville's Cody Brewer.
The bull riders are competing in a Touring Pro Division of the Professional Bull Riders. The riders aim to earn enough money to then compete in another series that includes the world's top 40 bull riders.
Tickets for the Thompson-Boling bull riding are $10, $20, $35 and $50 for adults, depending on their seats. All tickets for children ages 2 to 12 are $5. Tickets are on sale at the Thompson-Boling box office, at 865-656-4444 or http://www.knoxvilletickets.com
