The Insider: Jimmy Kimmel doesn't have a taste for Popcorn's 'likker'

Jimmy Kimmel can’t touch the stuff.

Johnny Knoxville, who seems to have an endless supply of Cocke County moonshine, has been spreading the “likker” all around Hollywood in recent months, and Kimmel has had a sample.

The ABC late-night talk show’s review of the strong drink: “It tastes like gasoline. I wouldn’t say I drink a lot of it, but I have tasted it a couple of times.” He says he can only drink a “thimble full” of the stuff, reportedly the strong drink created by the late Popcorn Sutton.

More than that and “then my brain goes on fire,” he told me after he was host recently of a women of comedy panel for TV critics.

“Johnny Knoxville seems to have an endless supply of it. Whenever he comes to visit, he brings a Mason jar of it. I try to get other people to taste it so I don’t have to,” Kimmel says.

What’s the worst reaction he’s seen?

“Just general drunkenness,” Kimmel says with a laugh.

Courteney Cox and David Arquette are just a couple of the stars who have subjected themselves to the East Tennessee moonshine at parties.

Stooge news. Johnny Knoxville is speaking out on those rumors he’s joining the cast of “The Three Stooges,” to be directed by the Farrelly Brothers. Some reports say he’s agreed to do it; others say it’s too soon to be casting and nothing is firm.

“I am a huge fan of the Three Stooges and the Farrelly Brothers, but at this time that is all the news that there is to report,” says the South Knoxville native born PJ Clapp. “If anything changes, I will let you know.”

Reportedly, Brad Pitt and Jim Carrey have been in place for Stooges roles and both have dropped out for various reasons.

With “Jackass 3D” making close to $160 million at the box office worldwide, Knoxville joining the antics of the Stooges would be a natural.

Broadway. Dolly Parton isn’t done with the bright lights of Broadway yet.

The Sevier County native tells the Chicago Sun Times she’s writing another musical for stage — and this time, it’s aimed at children. It also would serve as her life’s story of sorts.

The tale would center on “a mountain girl who makes good,” Parton is quoted as saying.

The setting is Tennessee and will feature the gospel music. A projected date for the show has not been announced yet.

Parton has plenty of other things to do this year: She’s starting work on “Joyful Noise,” her first feature film in almost 20 years, next week. She’s also got a new CD in the works and a tour. Maybe Broadway is a while off yet. Though her first stint on Broadway — “9 to 5”— closed after five months, the show has done relatively well as a traveling show across the country.

On Broadway, it earned critical acclaim such as Drama Desk nominations and even a Tony nod.
